Job Description

You will teach group classes (maximum 20 students) and possibly one-to-one students as part of our intensive General English programme in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. Students are full-time international learners from around the world, studying 2 weeks to 12 months with varied language goals. You’ll deliver communicative, task-based lessons that maximize student language production through pair and group work. You’ll adapt materials to suit student needs, maintain an English-only environment, and may have opportunities to teach specialist courses including Academic English, IELTS, Young Learners, and Business English.

Teachers at ELC are positive and part of the school community. They teach well-planned and communicative lessons designed to get students working in pairs and groups as much as possible, ensuring students are the primary language producers. You’ll report to the academic management team while being supported by collaborative teaching staff who are always on hand to provide advice and guidance.

Schedule:

Teaching 20-25 hours weekly, Monday-Friday
Working day: 8:30am-5pm
Class times: 9:30am-12:45pm, 2pm-4pm

Key Responsibilities:

Lesson planning and working to a syllabus
Keeping detailed lesson records
Administering and marking weekly and end-of-level assessments
Preparing academic student reports
Conducting student tutorials
Monitoring student progress and adapting instruction accordingly
Marking and returning homework/tasks promptly
Addressing student issues (academic/personal/behavioural) where appropriate
Serving as point of contact for students in and out of classroom
Collaborating with teachers to share best practice
Ensuring a student-centred classroom
Cover teaching if required
Attending professional development sessions and team meetings

Qualifications

CELTA preferred (or 160-hour TEFL/TESOL qualification) plus minimum 3 years classroom teaching experience
Knowledge of contemporary ESL methodologies that underpin a student-centred classroom
Strong classroom management, communication, and sequential lesson planning skills
Ability to utilise technology appropriately to enhance the learning experience

Salary and Benefits

Salary:
MYR 6,000-8,000 per month, based on teaching experience, academic background, and certifications. Annual increment of MYR 250 after 12 months of service.
Employment Pass:
ELC Malaysia will sponsor your employment pass (work visa) for Malaysia.
Medical Insurance:
Medical (hospitalization) insurance provided by ELC Malaysia.
Annual Leave:
14 days annual leave in accordance with the Annual Holidays Act (timing subject to company operational requirements).
Sick Leave:
Up to 14 days paid sick leave per year.
Public Holidays:
Entitled to public holidays gazetted for observance throughout the state (company reserves the right to require work on these days if circumstances reasonably necessitate).
Other Leave:

Bereavement leave available in accordance with company policy
Parental leave in accordance with Malaysian Labor Law
